Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We welcome you to the January-February issue of Journal of Massage Science. We start 2010 with a very special issue.
First of all, we would like to thank everyone who participated in voting for the winner of our 2009 Case of the Month contest. You chose Karen Pasquini as a winner and we would like to congratulate her with this achievement.
I would like to express great appreciation of our Editorial Board to Brad Hemphill, Stephen Ryason, Elena Mesh, Chris Toal, and Howard Black who contributed great materials to our contest and each of these submissions has great practical value.
In this issue we start a series of very important articles under the name ‘How Massage Therapy Heals The Body’. Don’t miss this and the following articles, because they will equip you with great information which will allow you to communicate with other health practitioners and build up a referral base.
In this issue we also start a very important discussion on Piriformis Muscle Syndrome and Sciatica. For this issue Dr. P. Novakovic contributed Part I of the article where he discusses the anatomy and physiology of the piriformis muscle and its relation with neuro-vascular structures in the pelvis and in the gluteal area.
The Case of the Month was sent to us from Mexico by Juan Sabag, LMT and we hope that you will enjoy this great story of professional success. This is an excellent example of how medical massage can give life back to the person who has lost all hope for recovery.
As usual, you may find a lot of helpful information in our Good Apples/Bad Apples section.
Sincerely, Dr. Ross Turchaninov, MD
