Our Person of the Month is Dr. Grant J. Rich, PhD, BCTMB, LMT. He has greatly contributed to the field of massage science by studying its effects on patients with psychological disorders including the post-concussion state. We are sure that his interview, which is full of interesting topics and data, can be used by therapists to help build-up their referral base among mental health practitioners.

In this issue, we introduce two new massage therapists Jose and Christie. They recently graduated our Medical Massage Certification program and joined our CMMP family.

In Science of Massage Institute News, we would like to congratulate Dr. Glenn M. Hymel, LMT for being a recipient of the AMTA Polseno Lifetime Achievement Award.

In our News from the Clinic section we share with you interesting cases that we have recently observed within our Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Daytona Beach partner-clinics. 

In the Medical Massage section of JMS we have published two new articles:

  1. “Oncology Massage Part I: Massage Therapy in Cases of a Newly Diagnosed Cancer,” by Dr. Jeffrey M. Cullers, DC, BS, CMMP and Dr. Ross Turchaninov, MD, LMT. This article addresses common misunderstandings and mistakes therapists make when working on patients with a newly diagnosed cancer.
  2. We have also continued to publish “How Massage Heals the Body.” This segment, titled “Stimulation of Cellular Functions by Massage Therapy,” written by Dr. Ross Turchaninov reviews scientific data, which explains the effect massage therapy has on cellular functions.

In our Case of the Month section, one of our current students Galina Yildirim, LMT shares a very interesting clinical case: “Medical Massage VS Epilepsy”

Finally, as usual you will find a lot of helpful information in our Good Apples/Bad Apples section.
