Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Welcome to JMS Issue #3 of 2021. We appreciate the support of our readers from all around the world. We hope you enjoy this issue’s content:

‘We Need Your Help’ to determine the Winner of the JMS‘s Best Case of the Month International Contest for 2021. Please vote!

In the Science of Medical Massage section, we published two clinical articles to illustrate the clinical possibilities Medical Massage offers to patients and therapists. In many cases, Medical Massage can be a critical factor in patient recovery while giving therapists incredible opportunities to grow professionally.

The first article in this section comes from our former student Theresa M. Brumble, RT(R)(CT), CMMP, LMT, LLLT, who shares her first clinical case to treat a patient with Dysphagia. The article ‘Medical Massage in Cases Of Dysphagia’ illustrates how the correct application of Medical Massage can deliver stable clinical results when all other treatment options have failed. Following this first case, Theresa’s clinic became a locally known place to treat such debilitating medical conditions as Dysphagia.

Our second article, ‘The Clinical Value Of Abdominal Massage’, written by Dr. Ross Turchaninov, continues JMS’s discussion on the clinical value of Medical Massage for patients with inner organs disorders. Previously we discussed Medical Massage techniques and modalities which have a reflex effect on chronic visceral disorders. This article is our first attempt to address a very complex subject: the local effect of Medical Massage in the form of Abdominal Massage.

In our Case of the Month section, our former student Allen Stanley, LMT, CMMP, CMLDT, shares his clinical case ‘Manual Rehabilitation of Burn Patients,’ which illustrates the importance of a comprehensive approach to somatic rehabilitation of severe burn patients. As clearly demonstrated in this case, a correctly developed treatment strategy that prioritizes techniques and modalities is vital for clinical success.
