Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Welcome to Issue #4 of 2017. We appreciate the support of our readers from all around the world. Here is the content of the current issue we hope you will enjoy:
Our Person of the Month is Dr. J. Kallio, DC Educational Dean of South California Health Institute (SOCHI) in Los Angeles, CA. Under Dr. Kallio’s leadership SOCHI was recognized as a School of the Year (2017) by the World Massage Festival.
In our News from the Clinic section we share with you interesting cases that we have recently observed within our Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Daytona Beach partner-clinics.
In our section Introducing New CMMPs we would like readers to applaud our former students who have finished our Medical Massage Certification program and are now on the road to their personal professional quest and clinical successes.
In the section We Need Your Help! we ask our readers to participate in voting for our 2017 Best Case of the Month Contest. There are four therapists who contributed their clinical cases to JMS in 2017: Susi Crawford, CMMP, LMT, Galina Yildirim, LMT, Sally Ramsey BBA, LMT and Melissa Reynolds, CMMP, LMT. Please vote to help us find the winner, who will receive a check for $500 and a gorgeous certificate.
In the Hidden Gem of American Clinical Massage article Mary Biancalana, MA, CMTPT, LMT shares with readers her report from the NAMTPT 33rd Annual Conference, held in Chicago. This conference is the place to be for everyone who is interested in the science behind successful somatic rehabilitation.
In this article of JMS, Dr. J. Cullers and Dr. R. Turchaninov publish their Response to a two-part critique by Tracy Walton of their original article, “Oncology Massage, Part I” published in issue #2, JMS, 2017. Ms. Walton published her critique in Massage Today. The subject of disagreement is the clinical application of Oncology Massage and we suggest all therapists who practice it read Ms. Walton’s critique and our response.
In the Science of Stress Reduction and Therapeutic Massage section of JMS we are publishing an interesting article, “Essential Oils and Aromatherapy” by our former student Carolynn Anderson, CMMP, LMT. Therapists may and should consider the use of Essential Oils to additionally reinforce the Therapeutic and Stress Reducing effect of a massage session.
In the Medical Massage section of JMS we have published Part I of an article written by Dr. Ross Turchaninov: “Let’s talk about Neuromuscular Junctions.” This important subject is very frequently overlooked by therapists during treatment and we would like to fill this void with theoretical and clinical data.
In our Case of the Month section, one of our former students, Melissa Reynolds, CMMP, LMT shares with our readers an interesting clinical case, “Medical Massage vs Deltoid Muscle Syndrome.”
Finally, as usual, you will find a lot of helpful information in our Good Apples/Bad Apples section.
Dr. Ross Turchaninov, Editor in Chief
