SOMI is proud to introduce three massage therapists who graduated from our Medical Massage Certification Program and are now helping patients in complex clinical cases in Oregon, Texas, and Florida. We expect them to not only help patients but also educate the medical community and other therapists about the exceptional benefits of Medical Massage so that the Medical Massage concept can reach more therapists and eventually help more patients. Good luck, guys! It was a pleasure to work with each of you!
Dr. Ross Turchaninov
May Hawthorn, LMT, CMMP
I have always wanted to help people with health problems decisively. I studied and worked in holistic health my entire adult life, mainly as an Esthetician in spas and a health food store, as a Physical Therapy Aide, and as a Doula. However, the entire time, I wish I had chosen massage therapy as a career instead. To integrate therapeutic techniques, I studied Lymphatic Drainage massage for Estheticians and used the massage skills I learned as a PT Aide in facials.
Finally, to fulfill my dream, in 2015, at 56 years old, I returned to school and earned my CMT. However, it wasn’t until 2022 that I found the Science of Massage Institute through Boris Prilutsky, LMT. After my first theory class with Dr. Ross in 2022, I realized that SOMI was what I was looking for. It was apparent that SOMI offers a glaring, missing piece of the puzzle in our massage therapy education and the U.S. healthcare system in general. Aside from a brief mention of Russian massage, I couldn’t believe it wasn’t mentioned in any of the massage textbooks we studied in school.
I witnessed firsthand that there are scientific ways to address soft tissue abnormalities to solve complex cases and give patients their lives back completely. My patients and I are blessed that I found SOMI! My favorite quote by Dr. Ross is, “Science of Medical Massage is NOT personal opinion!”
It is my greatest accomplishment, next to raising my two sons, to be a Massage Clinician and earn my CMMP from the Science of Massage Institute. Sometimes, I want to shout from the rooftops to let all therapists know how vital SOMI training is!
P.S. My practice now is SOOOO busy!!!

Allen T. “Tim” Stanley, LMT, CMMP
In 2013, while living in Newport News, Virginia, I had anterior neck surgery. During the procedure I had a stroke which resulted in the loss of eye coordination, slight vision loss, disbalance, and poor movement coordination. Shortly afterward, my wife and I moved to Lake County, Florida, and my medical care was transferred from the V.A. Clinic in Orlando (I am a disabled Army veteran) to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
That was when I was introduced to alternative “natural” medical modalities, including Medical Massage Therapy, MPS Neurostim, Young Living essential oils and supplements, and Frequency Bio-Medical Therapies. After my full recovery, I realized that “I didn’t want to see others suffer from what I went through!” So, it became my passion to help desperate patients with Medical Massage Therapy and educate them about effective self-care.
I attended massage school and received my Massage Therapy License in 2017. Then as soon as I found the Science of Medical Massage Institute with Dr. Ross Turchaninov, a leading expert in the field of Medical Massage, I became submerged into Massage Science. It allowed me to help my patients fully recover from very complicated clinical situations. In the picture I hold my daily schedule. It is full of patients daily and frequently very complex cases.
To optimize my treatments further, I received extensive training in various techniques and modalities that blend with Medical Massage protocols: Dr. Vodder’s Method (MLD Institute), Cranio Sacral Therapy, Reflexology and Aromatherapy, Medical Cupping, Sports Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Ultrasound, MPS Neurostimulation Therapy, Auricular Therapy, Scar Release Therapy, and AO Scan / Theta Chamber Therapy.
